Friday, July 7 - Meet at Detroit Metro Airport International Terminal at 1:00 PM. Gather at the American Trans Air check in area. Our plane departs at 3:50 PM
Saturday, July 8 - Arrive at Frankfort Airport at 7:10 AM (1.10 AM Michigan time.) Take the train from Frankfort airport to Koblenz. The train ride to Koblenz lasts one hour and five minutes along the scenic Rhine River valley. Look for castles and vinyards. At Koblenz we will change trains. (This is a very quick change, so we must stay together.) From Koblenz, we take a one hour fifteen minute train ride along the picturesque Mosel River. We will stop at Trier. At Trier as at all midday stops, we will check our bags at the train station while we visit the city. Trier was the capital of Roman Germany. We will see some of the Roman ruins. After 2-3 hours in Trier, we will take the train to Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. We will eat supper in Luxembourg City and see some of the sights of the city. We must be back at the train station to take the 6:03 PM train from Luxembourg City through Luxembourg into southern Belgium. We will reach Trois Ponts, Belgium, at 7:38 PM. There we will be met bv Scouts from the De Havik Scout group. They will drive us to their campsite where we will camp.
Sunday, July 9 - We will spend the day in camp with the Belgian Scouts, They will have parents visiting. We can take the day to catch up on our jetlag and get to know them. There is the possibility of an evening excursion.
Monday, July 10 -The De Havik Scouts will take us on a sightseeing excursion to Bastogne and other local sights of interest
Tuesday, July 11 - The De Havik Scouts will take us to Liege where we will catch the train to Maastricht, The Netherlands (Holland). (26 minutes) We will check our bags, take a walking tour of the city, and visit the caves of St. Pietersberg. After sightseeing in Maastricht, we will take the train to Amsterdam. In Amsterdam we will take the 15 minute tram ride to the Scouthouse where we will spend Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.
Wednesday, July 12, and Thursday, July 13 - Sightseeing in Amsterdan, including the Rijksmuseum, a visit to a diamond cutter, the home of Anne Frank, and a canal ride. We might take a morning trip to the Dutch countryside.
Friday, July 14 - Get up early because we must catch the 8:02 AM train from Amsterdam to Hamburg, We then change trains at Hamburg and travel to Padborg, Denmark. We will arrive at Padborg at 4;57 PM where we will be met by our host troop from Graasten and taken to the homes of our host families.
Saturday, July 15, Sunday, July 16, and Monday, July 17 - We will spend these days visiting with our host Scouts and staying in their homes.
Tuesday, July 18 - We travel to Blue Summer with the Graasten Scouts and set up camp with them.
Wednesday, July 19 - Wednesday, July 26 - Blue Summer - We will camp as part of the Graasten troop. Activities will include a day trip to Legoland.
Thursday, July 27 - Take down camp. Return to host families in Graasten. Do laundry.
Friday, July 28 - Take the train north to Frederica where we change trains (QUICK CHANGE) and travel east towards Copenhagen. We will spend about one hour on the train ferry traveling to the island of Zealand. We will stop for a few hours in Roskilde, where we will visit the Viking Ship Museum and the Cathedral. We will then take the train on to Copenhagen. At Copenhagen we will take public transportation to the Scouthouse where we will stay Friday and Saturday evening. A Copenhagen Scout group will join us Friday evening.
Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30 - We will be joined by two local Scout leaders who will lead us on two days of sightseeing in Copenhagen and North Zealand. We will spend July 29 in Copenhagen, seeing the Copenhagen mermaid, Christiansborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, and the Strøget shopping area. We will spend the evening at Tivoli Gardens. July 30 will be a trip to North Zealand, to Frederiksborg Castle at Hillerød, to Helsingør, hopefully a ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg, Sweden, and then back to Copenhagen. On Sunday night, July 30, we must be at the train station to take the 9:05 PM Nord Express. We will be in sleeping "couchettes". We will travel to South Zealand and take the ferry to Germany, then travel through Germany to Cologne.
Monday, July 31 - We will arrive in Cologne at 7:39 AM, We will get breakfast in Cologne, walk around the city, and tour the cathedral. We will then take the 2 hour 45 minute train ride to Brussels, Belgium. There we will see the Grand Place, the Mannekin Pis, and other sights of the Belgian capital. In the late afternoon, we will take the one hour train ride to Bruges, where we will stay in the Scout house of a local Scout troop. In the evening, we will walk around the floodlit streets of Bruges.
Tuesday, August 1 - We will see the sights of Bruges in the morning and take the train to Ghent for an afternoon sightseeing there, returning to Bruges in the evening.
Wednesday, August 2 - We will take the train to Oostende, on the Belgian coast, the 1:45 PM ferry from Oostende to Dover, England. and then the train to London. We will arrive in London at 7:00 PM. We will stay in a Scout house that will be arranged by a London troop.
Thursday, August 3 - Sightseeing in London The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Harrod's, Hard Rock Cafe, shopping
Friday, August 4 - Continued sightseeing in London Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, British Museum
Saturday, August 5 -Take the bus to Windsor for a visit to Windsor Castle and Eton School, then on to Hampton Court. Return to London.
Sunday, August 6 - Morning half hour train ride to Gatwick airport for flight back to Detroit.
